Amazing museum in the middle of nowhere run by people who want for you to learn history by enjoying yourself.
My family suggested we go because they've added new exhibits and I'm so glad they did! I'd been to the museum twice before - one room, interesting stuff, but the space was very limited and everything was in flat cases. This time was entirely different: they've added rooms and improved displays. It's interactive - there's an area that simulates a parlor and you can sit on the furniture; kids can get in the stagecoach. The historian even took us on an unofficial tour! Her passion for the museum was evident, but I'd have enjoyed myself anyway. They've made storefronts, instead of boring display cases, to curate items as close as possible to how they would have been seen or used. I highly recommend the Ft. Wallace Museum to anyone who wants to know what life was like in western Kansas from the 1800's to now.
Wonderfully done museum. Well worth seeing.
I only stopped for a quick visit. They are / were in progress in adding some life dioramas in the back of the main building. I think, when completed and ready for the public, it will add to the museum experience.
Very cool museum. Amazing dinosaur fish in the back!
Very well done history of Fort Wallace. Enjoyed the time there visiting with the historian who was very knowledgeable.
